Heritage Behavioral Health Center takes pride in being one of Central Illinois’ premier behavioral healthcare employers. We attract a diverse workforce of highly qualified individuals from within a 50-mile radius of Decatur.  

We have excellent working relationships with many area colleges and universities, and offer real life work experiences for interns in counseling, social work, addiction services, and nursing. The experience is so positive for many interns that they seek employment with our organization following graduation.

Heritage Interns are held to the same standards as our employees, and are required to submit a valid driver’s license, proof of automobile insurance, and have reliable means of transportation.  In addition, criminal and DCFS background checks, and a pre-employment drug test, are required prior to commencement of an internship.  

Internship applications are accepted and reviewed 3-4 months prior to each semester. There are a limited number of internship opportunities available, and preference is given to the universities with which we have working agreements.
